Thanks so much for checking out Cook It With Kids, a blog of delicious and easy recipes for kids of all ages that I hope will inspire and encourage you to get in the kitchen with your children.
I thought I’d start with a little intro about how this all came about. I’ve been cooking since I could hold a spoon (yes that is me on the left!) and over the years food and cooking have become my passion. I’ve always believed cooking is an essential life skill that should be part of daily life, much like reading, writing and brushing your teeth.
Six years ago I left a career in TV and set up The Cooking Club , running clubs and cookery workshops for young people all over my home county of Suffolk. Whilst researching recipes for kids I’ve often turned to children’s cookbooks, but rarely find anything that goes beyond pizza, pasta, smoothies, crumbles and cupcakes. Whilst these are all valuable and fun things to cook with kids, it never fails to amaze me what children are capable of in the kitchen as long as you have the time and some patience. Over the years I’ve come up with a fair few recipes, so I thought I’d start blogging about them in the hope that it will inspire others to get in the kitchen with their kids too.
All the recipes in my blog have been test run and taste approved by the children I work with. All sauces and marinades are made from scratch, and most of the pastry too. Some incorporate strong flavours and techniques that you might think children will find difficult, but give them a go. You might be pleasantly surprised at the results!
So readers, I challenge you to get cooking with your kids at least once a week. I’ll provide the recipes, all you need are the ingredients and time. I promise you it will be worth it!
