Greasing and lining a cake tin

As a child there were many tantrums and tears when a cake had gone wrong because I’d forgotten to grease the tin. When baking it can be the difference between success and failure! You can just use butter but a sheet of greaseproof as well will protect the cake when it’s in the oven and stop it getting crusty around the edges. Get the children to draw around the bottom of the tin and cut out the greaseproof paper, then use the butter or oil as the glue to stick it down.
